Name: Corinn Jane Lindsey
Age: 16-17
Location: In The Realm she lives briefly in a tree house off the Academic Complex in Capital City, but moves in with Nathan in his cottage near the Castle eventually. In the real world she lives in Surrey, UK (near London).
Occupation: In The Realm she is a student of two disciplines, Movement and Electricity (Nathan and Matteo’s Masteries respectively). In the real world she works behind the counter at a small bakery and is finishing up secondary school.
Appearance: Unlike Nathan, Corinn’s appearance changes when she goes between the worlds. In the real world she is 5’6, and about 125 lbs. She has light brown eyes and a short cropped bob hairstyle. Her hair is straight and brown, but with a reddish hue to it. It is thin and mousy though. Corinn is pale but her face and arms are heavily freckled. On her wrists and thighs she has cutting scars, and her skin is easily bruised. She is rather flat-chested and tends to wear clothes that are too big for her. In The Realm, her form changes to that she has always wanted because her rape has made her feel ugly and inhuman. She is about the same height and weight but is proportioned differently, with a bigger bust and more accentuated curves. Her hair is mid-back and curly, still brown/red but more vibrant. Her eyes change to a bluish gray and her freckles disappear as well as her bruises and scars. She seems to carry herself straighter and with more confidence in The Realm.
Hobbies: In the real world she loves to watch figure skating but has never had the confidence to try it. In The Realm she discovers she loves to draw, and spends a lot of her time drawing the scenery and wishing she could remember what it looks like in the real world. She loves to explore The Realm and meet all the different creatures.
Attitude/Personality Traits: Curious and inquisitive. She always wants to find out what is going on. She is very introspective and self-questioning. She seeks to find the deeper meaning in things and doesn’t like to accept the status quo, but prefers to find out for herself why things are the way they are. She’s a mystery solver. She suffers from depression but handles it positively, trying to work her way out of it. She is a quick learner and likes to multitask. She’s friendly and tends to find good in others easily. She can be stubborn though, and tends to get bossy once she has found the answer or formed her opinion of something. She will get easily frustrated or angry with someone who refuses to see logic. She is loyal though and will never betray someone who trusts her. In the real world she is shy and withdrawn. She doesn’t like to get close to people that she feels will inevitably hurt her. She has a tendency to deny herself the things she wants because she doesn’t have the confidence to follow her dreams. Throughout the story her real self becomes more like her Realm self.
Relationships of Note: Her birth parents: Emma and Carl Lindsey. Her father died and her mother disappeared when she was very young. Her Uncle Jonas, who adopted her when she was five and later sold her body for drugs and liquor and raped her. Nathan, her teacher and love interest in The Realm. He has helped her come out of her shell and has also helped her learn to love someone again because he is gentle and waits for her. Kunizka, the Queen’s and Nathan’s daughter. She meets Kunizka and talks to her despite everyone being afraid to go near her because it is banned by Reizka. Kunizka helps her solve the mysteries of Rakuen and tells her the secrets of Nathan’s Realm past. Matteo, another teacher at the academy. Nathan warns her that he is dangerous but she insists on joining his class anyway and he becomes a close ally. She tries hard to bridge the gap between he and Nathan. Naomi Keane, who she manages to reconcile with his brother and was briefly attracted to because he is so much more outwardly outgoing than Nathan. Reizka, who despises her for ‘stealing’ Nathan’s affections away from her and corrupting her daughter.
Abilities/Powers/Weapons: Corinn is a great mystery solver and passionate observer of subtleties. She is in the process of mastering two disciplines, Motion and Electricity, so she will be able to move at supernatural speeds and control the forces of lighting and electric energy. Her weapon is a long metal staff, which she can use to route electricity through and cut things at hyperspeed in motion.
Backstory: Her birth parents were Emma and Carl Lindsey. Her father was killed in a car accident when she was three and her mother became a drug addict then disappeared not long after. She moved from home to home for a few years before an uncle on her mother’s side claimed her and adopted her. He works for a newspaper so they never had much money, but they were fine for the first two years. Her uncle Jonas was a binge drinker though and often mixed his alcohol with pills. When Corinn was seven one of his friends raped her while they were intoxicated. When she told her uncle about it he said that if she told anyone he would send her back to the children’s home or worse. She kept quiet because she was terrified of being alone again. As time went by she was raped by many more of her uncle’s ‘friends’, who would come over and bring him pills or alcohol. He was always very nice to her afterwards, which she felt made it so much worse that he was clearly selling her to support his own addictions. He raped her for the first time when she was 14, and then twice after that. When she was around twelve Corinn started cutting herself, and a few times snuck some of her uncle’s pills to make the rape easier to bear. When she had finally turned sixteen she told him she was moving out and it was the first time he really beat her. She escaped and managed to call the police, but they couldn’t try him for the rape because she refused to press charges. He was sent to jail for drug possession and domestic violence instead, which gave Corinn the time to find her job at the bakery and move into a tiny basement flat. Now she is working on getting accepted to a university overseas so she will be gone when her uncle gets out of prison, and curing her depression via self-help books because she has no health insurance to see a therapist or psychologist. Corinn first came to The Realm while she was reading one of her books in the store and her finger brushed a sticker of Reizka’s symbol stuck on the back inside cover.
