The Realm of Dreams

I'm starting a blog (mostly for myself) so I can find and keep track of inspirations for my original story. Working title: The Realm. Based on the nature of the story most of what I post will be dark, gothic, victorian/steampunk esque, violent/gory, or long and wordy excerpts. If you like any of my characters or ideas (or just the pretty pictures) feel free to follow but please don't steal any of my character/plot/setting ideas or anything else that's my original work :P

Vampires (a rant type thing)

I would really love to see the vampire come back to literature as a scary monster rather than someone you’d want to fuck. I want to see vampires who kill and hurt others WITHOUT remorse..It feels like every single book you see these days involves romanticized vampires, werewolves, even zombies for crying out loud. These things are monsters! They are supposed to drink blood and tear people to shreds and at the very least be secluded, creeper pariahs who most likely abuse children or small animals for the thrill of watching blood flow. The idea of a vampire who hates his nature isn’t a bad one, but these days they ALL do. I want to see a vampire who drinks human blood and kills and does horrible things and LOVES it!

I also think it’s pretty sick that so many people these days are under the impression it would be terrific to become a vampire or bring a vampire home to mom and dad…A vampire shouldn’t be something you want to be or something you seek out, and once you are a vampire there shouldn’t be the pussy escape plan where you can subsist on the blood of animals yada yada. When you become a vampire you don’t become Brad Pitt, you become a monster controlled by thirst and violent urges.

Furthermore, while there are MANY exceptions, there are some pretty disturbed fucks out there who claim to be vampires and commit murders and all kinds of crazy crimes because they think they’ll be immortal or they like to drink blood and can’t control it. There are a lot of ways being a ‘real vampire’ can get VERY creepy VERY fast. As far as I’ve noticed the positive image vampires are getting these days could result in a bunch of stupid teenagers doing some really fucked up shit in the future..Because most people who think vampires are cool and blood drinking is sexy don’t know much about how to be a ‘vampire’ safely, or really anything about actual communities of good ‘vampires’. 

My story does involve vampires, but definitely not the kind you would want to be. My goal is to someday write a story in which vampires are the bad guys again. I hardly expect to make a dent with all the vampire love going on right now (especially since they’re not even the main topic of the story), but I really want someone to read and think my vampires are creepy or even scary rather than sexy and appealing hotties.
